The body becomes the canvas for Gakkin's contemporary reading of Japanese blackwork. Bold compositions combine flowing organic shapes, ornamental pattern and geometric structure that move naturally across the anatomy. Deep, saturated blacks against preserved negative space create a powerful visual rhythm. His ability to turn traditional Japanese influence into an abstract, contemporary language gives the large-scale work an identity that is immediately recognisable.
