Sam Barber brings an almost painterly quality to surrealist colour realism, with compositions closer to fantasy oil painting than to conventional tattooing. Her command of light, colour and focal hierarchy lets intricate detail sit naturally within atmospheric, dreamlike settings. Most impressive is the way realistic portraiture is woven into these imagined worlds, faces and surroundings blended with great softness. The work is technically accomplished and carries a rare sense of emotion and story.
